Repurposed Kitchen Cabinets

Repurposed Kitchen Cabinets

Like most recycling efforts, it’s a little more intense and requires a little more creativity than off-the-shelf products, but the result is totally worth it.  Thornton Design recently remodeled an old, out dated kitchen and turned it into a functional masterpiece using recycled cabinets.  The kitchen cabinetry makes up a good portion of kitchen design; it is hard to think about how many trees were sacrificed to manufacture the cabinets.  We found gorgeous wood cabinets and refinished them in a distressed, durable white paint.  The soft white adds a calming elegance to the open kitchen.

A lot of the cabinets built 20 and 30 years ago are more solidly constructed than most modular, pre-built cabinets today.  So when it’s time to redo the kitchen, it often doesn’t make sense to start from scratch.  It’s a lot easier to live sustainably than people expect sometimes, and the end result is so much more gratifying and enjoyable. Re-using instead of purchasing new can make a huge difference on the environment as well as your budget.

Recycle and Reuse whenever and wherever possible–a little creativity can often go a long way and add loads of personality. Think of the karma.
